The name "Meadows of Dan" comes from the beautiful meadows that are found near the Dan River. This river flows right through the area. One of the first English settlers, James Steptoe Langhorne, is given credit for naming the community. When you visit, you'll see a welcoming sign that shares the community's motto: "A simpler place in time."
Music and Wine Country
Meadows of Dan is a stop along The Crooked Road, which is Virginia's special trail for heritage music. This means you can often hear traditional Appalachian music here. The community is also located in the Rocky Knob American Viticultural Area. This is a special area recognized for growing grapes and making wine.
