A Look Back in Time: Meinier's History
Meinier has a long history! It was first written about in the year 1153. Back then, it was called de maniaco. Later, around 1344, its name changed a bit to Meignier.

Meinier covers an area of about 6.96 square kilometers (that's about 2.69 square miles). A big part of this land, about 80.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 3.3% of the area.
About 14.8% of Meinier is built up with buildings and roads. A small part, 0.4%, includes rivers or lakes. The remaining 1.1% is land that isn't used for farming or building.
Most of the water in Meinier is found in lakes. The municipality is located on the left side of Lake Geneva.

Meinier has a population of about 2,115 people. In 2008, about 18.8% of the people living here were from other countries. Over ten years, from 1999 to 2009, the population grew by 8.6%.
