Melissa Lee Price (born 12 December 1963) is an Australian politician. She is a member of the Liberal Party. She has been a representative in the House of Representatives since 2013. She represents the area of Durack in Western Australia.
From 2018 to 2022, she held important roles in the government led by Scott Morrison. These roles included Minister for the Environment (2018–2019), Minister for Defence Industry (2019–2022), and Minister for Science and Technology (2021–2022). Before that, she was an Assistant Minister for the Environment from 2017 to 2018.

Early Life and Education
Melissa Price was born on 12 December 1963 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. She was the youngest of four children. Her parents were Lyn and Ray Dellar. Her father worked in the mining industry.
Melissa's grandfather, David Dellar, and uncle, Stan Dellar, were also involved in politics. They represented the Australian Labor Party (ALP) in the Western Australian Legislative Council.
School and Early Jobs
Melissa went to St Mary's Catholic Primary School and Prendiville Catholic Girls College in Kalgoorlie. She left school when she was 15 years old.
She worked in different jobs, including hospitality, insurance, and management in the fast food, grains, and mining industries. She even worked as an aerobics instructor!
Becoming a Lawyer
Later, Melissa went to university as an adult student. She earned a degree in law from London South Bank University. She also completed a special law diploma at the University of Western Australia.
After her studies, Melissa worked as a lawyer from 1997 to 2002. She then worked for a grain company called CBH Group. She was their main lawyer and helped develop new business until 2008. After that, she worked for an iron ore mining company until 2012.
Political Career
Melissa Price first tried to enter state politics in March 2013 but was not successful. In July 2013, she was chosen by the Liberal Party to run for the federal seat of Durack. This happened after the previous representative, Barry Haase, retired.
She won the Durack seat for the Liberals in the September 2013 federal election. She was re-elected in the 2016 federal election.
Roles in Parliament
From 2015 to 2016, Melissa Price was part of the speaker's panel. This group helps the Speaker manage debates in the House of Representatives. From 2016 to 2017, she was the chair of a special committee that focused on Indigenous affairs.
Serving as a Minister
In December 2017, Melissa Price became the Assistant Minister for the Environment. She worked under the main environment minister, Josh Frydenberg.
In 2018, she became the Minister for the Environment in the government led by Scott Morrison. This was a very important role, and she became part of the main group of ministers, known as the cabinet.
Environmental Work
As Environment Minister, Melissa Price attended a big meeting about climate change in Poland in 2018. She also spoke about how climate change was linked to bushfires in Western Australia and Victoria in March 2019.
She supported the government's plans to protect the environment, including a large fund for climate solutions and a project called Snowy Hydro 2.0.
In April 2019, she approved an environmental plan for the Adani Group's Carmichael coal mine in Queensland. She also approved the Yeelirrie uranium mine in Western Australia.
Defence and Science Roles
After the 2019 federal election, Melissa Price became the Minister for Defence Industry. In this role, she worked to help Australian small and medium-sized businesses get involved in the defence industry.
In March 2021, she was again appointed to the cabinet. She also joined a special committee focused on naval shipbuilding. She held these roles until May 2022.
Personal Life
Melissa Price's husband, Colyn, passed away in 2002. They had one daughter, Rhiannon, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 18.
Melissa supports the Fremantle Dockers, a team in the Australian Football League.
