Discovering Mew Lake: A Gem in Algonquin Park
Mew Lake is a special spot within Algonquin Provincial Park. It is known for its natural beauty and its connection to a much larger water system. The lake is quite long, about 500 m (1,600 ft), and wide, about 400 m (1,300 ft). It sits at an elevation of 399 m (1,309 ft) above sea level.
How Water Moves Through Mew Lake
Mew Lake has water flowing into it and out of it. The main stream that brings water in is called Jack Creek. This creek enters the lake from the southwest side. Jack Creek also carries water out of the lake, leaving from the northwest side.
There is another, smaller stream that flows into Mew Lake. This stream comes from Pewee Lake, also entering from the southwest. All this water eventually makes its way to the Saint Lawrence River. It travels through Jack Creek, then the North Madawaska River, the Madawaska River, and finally the Ottawa River.
Camping and Fun at Mew Lake
One of the most popular spots at Mew Lake is the Mew Lake Campground. This campground is part of Algonquin Provincial Park. It is a great place for families and adventurers to visit all year round.
The campground offers many different ways to stay. You can find campsites with electricity, which is handy for charging devices. There are also special areas where radios are not allowed, making it very quiet. Some zones are even dog-free, which is great for people with allergies. For those who want a unique experience, there are seven cozy yurts available for rent. Yurts are round, tent-like structures that offer a comfortable stay.
