Mexicana's Journey
Mexicana began its story in 1921 in a city called Tampico. At first, it only carried mail from place to place. By the early 1930s, a big airline called Pan American World Airways owned most of Mexicana.
In the late 1920s, Mexicana started flying to other countries. It flew to airports in Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Mexicana was also the very first international airline to start flights to Los Angeles International Airport in the United States.
Growing and Competing
By the 1960s, Mexicana had a main rival: another Mexican airline called Aeroméxico. Mexicana almost went out of business during this time.
In 1969, Mexicana got its first Boeing 727 airplanes. However, two of these Boeing 727s had accidents that year. Some people were sadly killed in these crashes.
Later Years and End of Flights
In the 1990s, Aeroméxico and Mexicana decided to work together. Mexicana started using new airplanes called the Airbus A320 family in 1991.
Mexicana kept growing and became one of the biggest airlines in North America. But in August 2010, Mexicana had serious money problems. The company officially stopped flying just a few weeks later. Mexicana has not flown any planes since then.
