Michael Che (born May 19, 1983) is an American comedian, actor, and writer. He is famous for his work on the TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL). Since 2014, he has been a co-host of the Weekend Update segment with Colin Jost.
Michael and Colin were also head writers for SNL from 2017 to 2022. They even hosted the Emmy Awards together in 2018. Before that, Michael worked as a writer for SNL. He was also a reporter for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for a short time. In September 2014, he became a Weekend Update co-host for SNL's 40th season. He took over from Cecily Strong.

Michael Che's Early Life
Michael Che Campbell was born in Manhattan, New York City, on May 19, 1983. He was the youngest of seven children. His father named him Michael after the famous revolutionary Che Guevara.
Michael grew up in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He went to the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
Before comedy, Michael worked at a Toyota car dealership. He also made and sold T-shirts with celebrity portraits. The fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger noticed his art.
Michael Che's Comedy Career
Starting in Comedy and SNL
Michael Che began doing stand-up comedy in 2009. He would perform many shows each night. In 2012, he appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman.
In 2013, Variety magazine named him one of "10 Comics to Watch." Rolling Stone magazine also called him one of "The 50 Funniest People."
Michael joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 2013. He started as a guest writer and then became a full-time staff writer.
Working on The Daily Show
On April 28, 2014, it was announced that Michael would join The Daily Show as a reporter. He started on June 4. Even though he was only on the show for a short time, he was praised for his work.
One of his most famous segments was "Race/Off: Live From Somewhere." This was a funny report about the 2014 Ferguson protests. In the segment, Michael pretended to report from different places. He was looking for a place where a Black man would not be bothered by police. The sketch ended with him floating in outer space.
Becoming a Weekend Update Host
On September 11, 2014, it was announced that Michael would co-host Weekend Update on SNL. He joined Colin Jost for the 40th season. Michael Che was the first African-American co-host in the history of Weekend Update.
For his first two seasons, Michael mostly hosted Weekend Update. He did not appear in many other sketches. In his third season, he became a main cast member. In December 2017, Michael Che was named a co-head writer for Saturday Night Live.
Michael left his role as head writer before SNL's 48th season in 2022. In March 2022, he said he might leave Weekend Update after that season. He later said he was not sure about his future on SNL.
Other Appearances
In 2014, Michael Che was in the movie Top Five. He played one of Chris Rock's character's friends.
On September 17, 2018, Michael co-hosted the Emmy Awards with Colin Jost. They also appeared on the TV show Monday Night Raw in March 2019. They were special reporters for WrestleMania 35. They even got involved in a story with wrestler Braun Strowman. This led to them joining a wrestling match at WrestleMania.
