Michal Rozsíval's Hockey Journey

Michal Rozsíval was chosen by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He was the 105th player picked overall. To get ready for playing in North America, he moved to Canada. There, he played junior hockey for the Swift Current Broncos. This team is part of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Before playing for the Penguins, he played for the Syracuse Crunch. This team is in the American Hockey League (AHL). Michal made his first NHL appearance in the 1999–2000 season.
Playing for the New York Rangers
After a break in the NHL season (the 2004–05 lockout), Rozsíval joined the New York Rangers. He signed with them as a free agent. On April 29, 2007, Michal scored a goal that ended a very long playoff game for the Rangers. It was their longest home playoff game since 1971. He scored against Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller in the second overtime period. During the 2007–08 season, Rozsíval scored two shorthanded goals. This was the most by any defenceman that season.
On July 1, 2008, Rozsíval signed a new four-year contract with the Rangers. It was worth $20 million. On February 22, 2009, he changed his jersey number to 33. This happened when the Rangers retired the number 3 jersey of former player Harry Howell.
Time with the Phoenix Coyotes
On January 10, 2011, Rozsíval was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. He moved there in exchange for player Wojtek Wolski. He didn't score any points when the Coyotes made it to the 2012 Western Conference Finals. They played against the Los Angeles Kings. Michal got injured during a play just before the Kings scored the winning goal in overtime. He had to be helped off the ice.
Winning with the Chicago Blackhawks
On September 11, 2012, Rozsíval signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks had a great 2012–13 season. They won the Presidents' Trophy for having the best regular season record. They also won the Stanley Cup that year. They beat the Boston Bruins in six games in the finals. In Game 1 of that series, Rozsíval shot a puck that led to the game-winning goal in triple overtime. He was given an assist for that play. On July 5, 2013, Rozsíval signed a new two-year contract to stay with the Blackhawks.

During the 2014–15 season, Rozsíval scored one goal and had twelve assists in 65 games. He played in ten games during the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, he got a serious ankle injury during a series against the Minnesota Wild. This injury needed surgery and a long recovery time. The Blackhawks still won the Stanley Cup that year. This meant Rozsíval's name was added to the cup for the second time.
On September 22, 2015, Rozsíval signed another one-year contract with the Blackhawks. He played his first game of the 2015–16 season on November 14 against the St. Louis Blues. In March 2016, Michal was nominated for the NHL's Masterton Trophy. This award is given to a player who shows great determination, good sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

After the 2015–16 season, Rozsíval signed yet another one-year contract with the Blackhawks. On February 28, 2017, Chicago extended his contract through the 2017–2018 season. In one of the last games of the 2016–17 season, Michal was hit in the face by Nick Ritchie of the Anaheim Ducks. Michal suffered a facial injury that needed surgery. He missed the rest of that season and the 2017 playoffs because of it. He was later diagnosed with post-concussion symptoms. He was placed on the team's long-term injured list before the next season. He never played another NHL game after that.
