Michelle Ang was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her family is of Malaysian Chinese descent. She grew up in Wellington with her parents and younger sister.
When she was a child, Michelle loved to dance. She performed with the Royal New Zealand Ballet. She was in famous ballets like The Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet.
Michelle went to Victoria University of Wellington. She studied for two degrees at the same time. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration in Accounting and Commercial Law. She also got a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Television Roles
Michelle started her TV career when she was young. She appeared on the family show Young Entertainers. On this show, she could sing and dance, much like The Mickey Mouse Club in the US.
From 1999 to 2001, she played Tai-San in the New Zealand show The Tribe. She was a main character for three seasons. Michelle also appeared in the last two episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess as Akemi.
From 2002 to 2003, she played Lori Lee in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She was a big part of the show. Michelle left Neighbours to finish her university studies. She came back for a short time in 2004. She was nominated for a Logie Award for Most Popular New Female Talent for her role.
In 2005 and 2006, she played Tracy Hong in the New Zealand TV series Outrageous Fortune. In 2007, Michelle was in the American drama South of Nowhere.
In 2012, Michelle Ang was in the MTV series Underemployed. She played a writer who had to work at a donut shop.
In 2015, Michelle starred in the web series Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462. She played Alex, a passenger on a plane during a zombie outbreak. She later appeared in the main show Fear the Walking Dead. Michelle received an Emmy nomination for her work on Flight 462. In 2020, she had a role in The New Legends of Monkey.
In 2021, Michelle Ang became the voice of Omega in the Disney+ animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Omega is a mysterious female clone. Michelle was allowed to use her natural New Zealand accent for the role. This was a tribute to Temuera Morrison, another New Zealander who played Jango Fett in Star Wars.
In 2023, Michelle starred as Melissa Wu in the comedy series Homebound 3.0. This show was shown in New Zealand on Warner Bros. Discovery channel Three. It is also available to watch internationally through the BBC. A second season of the show was made and will be shown in 2025.
Film Roles
Michelle Ang's first full-length movie was Futile Attraction in 2004. She also appeared in several short films in New Zealand. In 2006, she was in No.2, directed by Toa Fraser.
In 2011, Michelle played a smart Chinese New Zealander in the romantic comedy My Wedding and Other Secrets. This was her first main role in a movie. She won the "Best Lead Actress in a Feature Film Award" at the 2011 New Zealand Aotearoa Film & Television Awards for this role.
Her other movie roles include Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Triple 9.
Before her role in The Bad Batch, Michelle had tried out for a part in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. As a child, she also auditioned for the Cho Chang role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
