Michelle Ann Camille McCullock (born November 1, 1970), known as Michie Mee, is a talented Canadian rapper and actress. She is famous for being Canada's first important female MC, which means she was a lead performer in hip-hop. Many people see her as a true pioneer in Canadian hip-hop music.

Michie Mee's Early Life and Music Journey
Michelle McCullock was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, when she was young. She grew up in the Jane Street and Jane and Finch areas of the city. Michie Mee started performing professionally when she was just 14 years old.
In 1985, she got a big chance during a concert in Toronto. The famous group Boogie Down Productions introduced her to the audience. She performed on stage, showing off her skills. Later, Michie Mee teamed up with DJ L.A. Luv (Phillip Gayle). They formed a duo called Michie Mee and L.A. Luv.
Breaking Out in Canadian Hip-Hop
In 1987, their duo was featured on a Canadian hip-hop album called Break'n Out. This album was produced by KRS-One and Scott La Rock from Boogie Down Productions. Their first single, "Elements of Style", became popular in the United States.
In 1988, Michie Mee and L.A. Luv signed with a major American record label, First Priority/Atlantic Records. This was a huge step! Michie Mee became the first Canadian MC to sign a record deal with such a big American company. That same year, their duo appeared on another album, The First Priority Music Family: Basement Flavor. They had songs like "Victory Is Calling" and "On This Mic". "Victory Is Calling" also featured another great rapper, MC Lyte.
Debut Album and New Paths
In 1991, the duo released their first album, Jamaican Funk—Canadian Style. This album mixed hip-hop with dancehall reggae music. It included the popular song "Jamaican Funk". Over 60,000 copies of the album were sold in the U.S. It was even nominated for a Juno Award in 1992, which is a big music award in Canada.
After a while, the duo went their separate ways. L.A. Luv later joined the group Dream Warriors. Michie Mee then started her solo career. She opened shows for famous artists like Salt-n-Pepa and Sinéad O'Connor.
From Solo Artist to Actress
Michie Mee also became a founding member of the alternative rock band Raggadeath. In 1995, their song "One Life" was a hit in Canada. In the late 1990s, Michie Mee began acting. Her first movie was In Too Deep in 1999.
In 2000, she starred in the CBC Television series Drop the Beat. She played a rapper named Divine. Later that year, she released a new album called The First Cut Is the Deepest. The song "Don't Wanna Be Your Slave" from this album (featuring Esthero) earned her another Juno nomination.
Later Projects and Recent Work
In 2004, Michie Mee joined other Canadian artists to form a group called the Peace Prophets. They released a charity single called "Drop the Chrome". This song helped raise money for a good cause. That same year, she appeared in the film My Baby's Daddy. For the rest of the 2000s, Michie focused more on acting in movies and TV shows. She also continued to rap and feature on other artists' songs.
In 2009, she released the single "Say About Us". Throughout the 2010s, Michie Mee continued to act in small roles and make music. She often collaborated with other musicians.
In 2020, Michie Mee celebrated 35 years in the music business. She released a new album called Bahdgyal's Revenge. This was her first full album in twenty years! It featured well-known artists like her friend Chuck D and other Canadian rappers and Jamaican reggae legends. In 2021, she performed on the FreeUp! The Emancipation Day Special.
