Michigan City is a small town in Nelson County, North Dakota, USA. In 2020, about 263 people lived there. Even though its full name is Michigan City, most people just call it Michigan. The town's population has been getting smaller since the 1980s.
Michigan City was started in 1882 by Edwin A. Lamb. He moved there from Port Huron, Michigan.
In 1945, a Great Northern passenger train was involved in a serious accident near the city. It crashed into the back of another train. This accident caused many injuries and some deaths. Most of the people on the trains were soldiers coming home from World War II.
The city holds a special event every August called the Michigan Days festival.

Michigan City is located in North Dakota. It is found between two other cities, Grand Forks and Devils Lake.

Transportation Options
The Amtrak train called the Empire Builder goes through Michigan City. This train travels between Seattle/Portland and Chicago. However, the train does not stop in Michigan City.
The closest train station for passengers is in Devils Lake. This station is about 37 miles (60 kilometers) away from Michigan City.
