Middle Creek is a stream that flows for about 17.1 miles (27.5 kilometers). It is a smaller stream, also called a tributary, that flows into Toms Creek. Middle Creek runs through parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland in the United States.

This creek starts high up on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From there, it travels through Adams County, Pennsylvania and Frederick County, Maryland. Finally, it joins Toms Creek close to a town called Emmitsburg. The water from Middle Creek eventually makes its way to the Atlantic Ocean. It flows into Toms Creek, then the Monocacy River, then the Potomac River, and finally into the Chesapeake Bay.

Where Does Middle Creek Flow?

Middle Creek begins its journey on South Mountain. This is where the creek's waters first start to gather. As it flows, Middle Creek is joined by other smaller streams. These include Swamp Creek, Spring Run, and Muddy Run. These smaller streams add more water to Middle Creek.

Crossing the State Line

As Middle Creek continues its path, it crosses an important boundary. This boundary is the Mason–Dixon line, which separates Adams County, Pennsylvania from Frederick County, Maryland. So, Middle Creek flows through two different states! After crossing into Maryland, the creek soon reaches its end. It flows into Toms Creek near Emmitsburg.
