Midpines is a small community in Mariposa County, California. It is called a census-designated place, which means it's an area the government uses for counting people.

Midpines is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills. It sits about 2,585 feet (788 meters) above sea level. It's about 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Mariposa, which is the main town in the county.

The community is spread out along State Route 140. This road is one of the main ways to reach Yosemite National Park, which is about 30 miles (48 km) to the east.

In 2020, about 379 people lived in Midpines. The population was higher in 2010 (1,204 people). This is because the area counted as Midpines was larger back then.

Midpines started as a vacation resort in 1926. It was founded by Newell D. Chamberlain. The first post office in Midpines opened a few years later, in 1929.

Where is Midpines Located?

Midpines is in the central part of Mariposa County. The U.S. Census Bureau says it covers an area of about 4.36 square miles (11.3 square kilometers). Most of this area is land.

The community is in the valley of Bear Creek. This creek flows northwest and eventually joins the Merced River near Briceburg.

The 2010 United States Census collected information about the people living in Midpines. At that time, the population was 1,204 people.

Most of the people in Midpines were White (about 82.2%). There were also people who identified as Native American (5.2%), African American (0.3%), and Asian (0.6%). About 8.1% of the people were from other races, and 3.6% were from two or more races.
