Midway was started a long time ago, on June 13, 1830. Two people named F. Thompson and William Morris helped create it. The village got its name "Midway" because it was exactly halfway along an old cattle route. This route was used to move cattle between the big cities of Chicago and Philadelphia.

Back in 1875, Midway was a busy little place. It had two churches where people could worship. There were also three stores that sold everyday goods. If you needed a place to stay, there was one hotel. For repairs, there was a blacksmith shop and a wagon shop. There was even a shoe shop and a doctor. At that time, about 250 people lived in Midway.
