Miguel Ángel Calero Rodríguez (born April 14, 1971 – died December 4, 2012) was a famous Colombian football player. He was a talented goalkeeper. Miguel Calero played for the Colombian national team 50 times. He played for his country between 1995 and 2007.
While playing in Colombia, Calero won two championships. He won one with Deportivo Cali in 1996. He won another with Atlético Nacional in 1998. In Mexico, he played for Club Pachuca for 23 tournaments. He helped his team win 10 different cups.
Miguel Calero also achieved success in international games. He won four CONCACAF Champions League titles. He also won the Copa Sudamericana in 2006. With the Colombian national team, he won the 2001 Copa América in 2001.

Playing Career
Miguel Calero was born in Ginebra, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Later, he also became a Mexican citizen.
He started his career playing for Deportivo Cali. With them, he won the 1996 Copa Mustang Division Mayor championship. After that, he played for Atlético Nacional in Colombia.
Moving to Mexico
Later, Calero moved to C.F. Pachuca, a team in Mexico. He became the captain of the Pachuca team. With Pachuca, he won many important titles.

In 2001, he was a key player for Colombia. His team won their first-ever Copa América championship that year.
His Unique Style
Calero was easy to recognize on the field. He often wore a baseball cap and a bandana while playing. He also had a special design on the back of his jersey. Around his number 1, there were a pair of wings. These wings were a symbol of his nickname, "El Cóndor" (The Condor).
After the Copa América 2007, Calero decided to retire from the Colombian national team. This was after a tough game where Colombia lost 5–0 to Paraguay.
On October 23, 2011, Miguel Calero played his very last game for Pachuca. After this game, he officially retired from playing football.
Health and Passing
On November 26, 2012, Miguel Calero became very sick. He had a serious medical problem called a cerebral thrombosis at his home in Pachuca. He was taken to the hospital right away.
Sadly, he had another serious medical event on December 3, 2012. Doctors said his condition was very serious and irreversible. He was kept on life support for a day. On December 4, 2012, it was announced that Miguel Calero had passed away.
His funeral was held in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. This city was home to his beloved club, CF Pachuca. After the ceremonies, his remains were cremated. Half of his remains were sent back to his home country, Colombia. The other half stayed in Mexico.
