Mihnea Ioan Motoc is a Romanian diplomat. A diplomat is someone who represents their country in other countries or international organizations. He served as the Minister of Defence for Romania from November 2015 to January 2017. This means he was in charge of the country's military and defense matters.
Before becoming Minister of Defence, he was Romania's ambassador to the European Union from 2008 to 2015. He also briefly served as the country's ambassador to the United Kingdom. Currently, he works as a Principal Adviser in a special department of the European Commission.

Mihnea Motoc's Career Journey
Mihnea Motoc started his career as a diplomat in the early 1990s. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. For many years in the 1990s, he worked in different government roles for Romania.
In 2003, he began working for the United Nations. He spent five years there as the Permanent Representative of Romania. This role meant he was Romania's main representative at the UN.
After his time at the UN, in 2008, he became the Permanent Representative of Romania to the European Union. He held this important position until 2015. In 2015, he became the Ambassador of Romania to London for a few months.
In November 2015, he was chosen to be the Minister of Defence in the Cioloș Cabinet. He served in this role until January 2017.
Mihnea Motoc's Education
Mihnea Motoc studied law at the University of Bucharest from 1984 to 1989. After that, he continued his studies abroad. In 1991, he earned a special certificate in Private International Law from the University of Nice.
A year later, in 1992, he received a Master's Degree in Public International and Comparative Law. He earned this degree from George Washington University in the United States.

Mihnea Motoc was born in Bucharest, Romania, on November 11, 1966. He is fluent in both English and French. He is married to Iulia Motoc, who is a Judge at the European Court of Human Rights. They have one son named Luca-Mihnea.
