Aleshin's Racing Journey
Mikhail Aleshin started his racing career in karting when he was just nine years old, racing from 1996 to 2000. After that, he moved into open wheel racing, which means cars with exposed wheels, like Formula One cars.
Early Success in Europe
In 2007, Mikhail made history by becoming the first Russian driver to win a major international single-seater race. This happened at Monza in Italy, during the opening round of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. He also briefly raced in the GP2 Series, which is a step below Formula One.
In 2009, Mikhail joined the new FIA Formula Two Championship. He finished third overall in the championship that year, winning one race at Oschersleben.
Becoming a Champion
Mikhail returned to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2010. This was a great year for him! He won three races and became the champion of the series. After this big win, he even got to test a Renault F1 car, which is a dream for many young drivers. He hoped to race in Formula One, but it didn't happen at that time.
In 2011, Mikhail faced some challenges. He raced in the 2011 GP2 Series but had some bad luck with technical problems and injuries. Despite these setbacks, he kept pushing forward in his career.
Racing in IndyCar
In 2014, Mikhail Aleshin started racing in the IndyCar Series in the United States with the team Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. This was a big step, as IndyCar races are known for their high speeds and tough competition.
A Big Crash at Fontana
Towards the end of the 2014 IndyCar season, Mikhail was involved in a serious crash during practice at the Fontana track. This track is known for cars reaching speeds of over 200 miles per hour!
Mikhail's car spun and was hit by another driver, Charlie Kimball. Both cars crashed into the outside wall. Mikhail's car even went up and over Kimball's car, hitting the safety fence. It was a very scary accident. Charlie Kimball was okay, but Mikhail was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, including a concussion, broken ribs, and a broken collarbone. Luckily, he recovered and was able to return to racing.
