A Look at Milan's Past

In the year 1900, Milan was a very important place for shipping goods. It was a key stop on the Great Northern Railway.

Lumber and Early Businesses

There were two sawmills right in Milan at that time. Two more sawmills were just a couple of miles away. These mills provided a lot of lumber to the city of Spokane. James Conalton was a well-known person in Milan back then. He was both the postmaster and the storekeeper.

Milan Today

Today, Milan is mostly a place where people live. It has a few dozen buildings. About one and a half miles from the original community, at the intersection of U.S. Route 2 and Deer Park-Milan Road, you will find more buildings. These include restaurants, a market, and the schools that serve the wider area.
