Millport is a small village located in Chemung County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 301 people lived there. The village got its name because it used to be a busy port along a canal.
Millport is in the northwest part of the town of Veteran. It is also north of the city of Elmira. The local mail code, or ZIP code, is 14864. It is part of the larger Elmira area.

A Look at Millport's Past
The area where Millport is located has a long history. In 1779, a military journey called the Sullivan Expedition passed through this region.
Early Settlers and Village Growth
The first person to settle and develop farmland here was Green Bently in 1798. The community was first called "Millvale" when it was planned out in 1825. Its name changed to "Millport" in 1829. This new name recognized its importance as a port on the Chemung Canal.
The canal helped the village grow a lot. For a while, about 1,000 people lived there. A creek called Catharine Creek also flows through the village. This creek goes north towards Seneca Lake.
Challenges in the 1840s
In the 1840s, Millport faced some tough times. Several widespread illnesses caused the population to shrink.
