Millsboro is a town located in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It is part of the Salisbury metropolitan area, which is a larger group of towns and cities.

A Look Back in Time
Millsboro was first settled by Europeans in the late 1600s. These early settlers came from Virginia. They were looking to cut down the many trees in the area. At one point, there were at least seven lumber mills here. The largest mill employed over 70 workers.
During this first settlement period, Millsboro had stores and churches. It also had a bakery and shops for blacksmiths. Many old cemeteries from this time can still be found.
The town officially began to grow in 1792. This was when Elisha Dickerson built a dam on the Indian River. Before this, the area was known as "Rock Hole." More mills were built, and the town kept growing. Millsboro officially became an incorporated town in 1893.
Before the American Revolutionary War, Millsboro was part of Maryland. The Nanticoke people, a Native American tribe, have lived in Millsboro for a very long time. Many historic buildings and places in and around Millsboro are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important landmarks.
Millsboro holds some interesting weather records for Delaware. On January 17, 1893, the temperature dropped to -17°F (-27°C). This was the coldest temperature ever recorded in the state. On July 21, 1930, it reached 110°F (43°C). This was the hottest temperature ever recorded in Delaware. Millsboro is one of only three cities in the U.S. to have both its state's extreme high and low temperatures recorded there.
