Miloš Degenek (born 28 April 1994) is a professional soccer player. He plays as a central defender for TSC and the Australia national team.
Miloš played for both Serbia and Australia in youth teams. He then made his first senior international appearance for Australia in 2016. This was in a game against England.

Miloš Degenek's Early Life
Miloš Degenek was born in 1994 in Knin, Croatia. His family lived in a village nearby. When he was young, his family had to move away from the war in Croatia in 1995. They went to Belgrade, Serbia, as refugees. In 2000, when Miloš was six, his family moved to Sydney, Australia. They settled in a suburb called Campsie.
Miloš Degenek's Club Career
Starting His Career
Miloš Degenek played soccer at Westfields Sports High School. He also played for the Australian Institute of Sport. In 2012, he joined the under-19 team of VfB Stuttgart in Germany.
In November 2012, Degenek was called up to the main team for the first time. He never played for the senior team, but he spent the 2012–13 season with the U19 side.
Miloš Degenek played his first game for VfB Stuttgart II on 26 July 2013. This was in the 3. Liga against SV Darmstadt 98. He only played 9 games in the 2013–14 season because of injuries. He was also injured for most of the 2014–15 season and did not play any games. He left the team at the end of that season.
Playing for 1860 Munich
At the start of the 2015–16 season, Degenek joined 2. Bundesliga club 1860 Munich. He signed a two-year contract with them.
Degenek played his first game for 1860 Munich in the first match of the season. He played the whole game, but they lost 1–0. Miloš quickly became a regular player in the team, playing in defensive midfield. He scored his first goal for the club on 19 September 2015. It was in a 1–1 draw against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He played in every match until he was suspended for one game in October. He made 28 appearances and scored one goal in his first season.
In the 2016–17 season, Degenek changed his position. He started playing as a central defender. He played in every match until he got an injury in September 2016. After he came back, he found it harder to get his starting spot back for the rest of the year.
Moving to Yokohama F. Marinos
On 26 January 2017, Degenek left 1860 Munich and joined Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos. He said he needed to leave to keep playing for his national team.
Degenek played his first game for Yokohama F. Marinos on 25 February 2017. He quickly became a key player and started every match. He helped the team go 14 games without losing. He also set up a goal in a 1–0 win. Degenek played 28 games in his first season. He was named in the J.League Young Players' Best XI.
Before the 2018 season, Ange Postecoglou became the new manager. He was the one who first called Degenek up for the senior national team. Degenek signed a new contract with the club. He continued to play as a centre-back. He scored his first goal for the club on 21 April 2018. It was in a 4–4 draw. He scored again in the J.League Cup on 16 May 2018. Three days later, he scored his third goal of the season. This was his last game for Yokohama F. Marinos. He played 15 games and scored 3 goals for the team.
Joining Red Star Belgrade
On 5 July 2018, Degenek joined Red Star Belgrade. He signed a three-year contract. He chose to wear the number 5 jersey.
Degenek played his first game for Red Star Belgrade on 10 July 2018. This was in a Champions League qualifying match. He played as a central defender. A few days later, he played his first Serbian SuperLiga game. On 29 August 2018, Degenek helped Red Star Belgrade qualify for the group stage of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League. He made two assists in a 2–2 draw.
Playing for Al-Hilal
On 12 January 2019, Degenek moved to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. On 23 April 2019, he was chosen as the best player in a 1–0 win. This was in the AFC Champions League.
Returning to Red Star Belgrade
On 22 July 2019, Degenek returned to his old club, Red Star Belgrade. He was first loaned to them for one year. After just two games, Red Star bought him back permanently. Degenek scored a goal in a 2–2 draw in a Champions League play-off game. This helped Red Star reach the Champions League group stage for the second time in a row. On 25 September, Degenek scored his first league goal for Red Star. On 4 November 2021, he received a red card in a UEFA Europa League game.
Playing for Columbus Crew
On 24 January 2022, Degenek signed with American team Columbus Crew. He said he moved to Major League Soccer to stay fit for the World Cup. On 1 September, Degenek was named in the MLS Team of the Week. This was for his good performance in a 1–0 win.
Second Return to Red Star Belgrade
On 24 July 2023, it was announced that Degenek had returned to Red Star Belgrade for a third time.

Miloš Degenek could play for Serbia, Croatia, or Australia. He has citizenship for both Serbia and Australia.
Youth National Teams
Degenek was the captain of Australia's under-15 team in 2009. He played his first game for the Australia under-16 team on 6 October 2009. He scored his first goal for this team on 16 October 2009. Degenek helped the Australian team reach the semi-final of the 2010 AFC U-16 Championship.
For the Australia U17 team, Degenek scored his first goal on 26 August 2010. He played two games for the Australia U17 team in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
On 11 October 2012, Degenek played his first game for the Serbia national under-19 team. He played eight games for this team. He later said he chose to play for Australia when he had the chance.
On 26 August 2015, Degenek was called up to the Olyroos squad. He played his first game for them on 4 September 2015. They won 1–0.
Senior National Team

Degenek made his first appearance for the Australia national team on 27 May 2016. This was against England. He came on as a substitute in the second half. He helped set up Australia's only goal in a 2–1 loss. A week later, he started his first game for Australia in a win against Greece.
Degenek played a lot under manager Ange Postecoglou. On 31 May 2017, he was chosen for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup squad. Degenek played two games in the tournament.
Degenek also played in the World Cup qualifiers. He helped Australia win and qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In May 2018, he was named in Australia's 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia. However, he did not play in any of the three group stage matches.
On 30 December 2018, Degenek scored his first goal for the Australian national team. This was in a friendly game against Oman. He said the goal involved "a fair bit of luck" but was very special to him.
During the quarterfinals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, Degenek made a mistake. His pass back to the goalkeeper was intercepted. The other team scored, and Australia lost 1–0. This meant Australia was out of the tournament.
On 8 November 2022, Degenek was chosen for his second World Cup tournament. He was named in Australia's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He played his first World Cup game against France. He played in all four of Australia's World Cup matches. Australia lost in the round of 16 to Argentina, who went on to win the tournament.
Miloš Degenek's Personal Life
Miloš Degenek has an older brother named Đorđe. Miloš speaks Serbian, English, and German. In 2018, he started learning Japanese.
Degenek used his salary to help his parents and brother. He said, "My family supported me when I was little. Now I support them."
Miloš Degenek supports Red Star Belgrade. He has said his dream soccer partner would be Sergio Ramos.
