A King's Capital

Famous Buildings in Milot
Henri Christophe built a grand palace in Milot. He and his family lived there. This palace was called Sans-Souci, which means "without worry" in French.
He also built a very strong fort high up in the mountains. This fort is called Citadelle Laferrière. It is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) away from Milot. He also built smaller forts in a place called Ramiens. Ramiens is on the road that leads to the Citadelle.
These amazing buildings are now part of a special area. It is called the Natural History Park - Citadel, Sans Souci, Ramiers. The UNESCO organization named it a World Heritage Site in 1982. This means it is a very important place for everyone in the world to protect.
