Minden is a small city in Louisiana, United States. It is the main city of Webster Parish. Minden is about 28 miles (45 km) east of Shreveport. In 2020, about 11,928 people lived there.
Minden's Main Street area is special. It's known as a Louisiana Main Street Community. It is also a Cultural Products District. This area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Minden is the main city in its area. This area includes all of Webster Parish. It is also part of the larger Shreveport–Bossier City–Minden region.

History of Minden
Minden was started in 1836 by a person named Charles Veeder. The city's name comes from a city in Germany also called Minden.
The city of Minden was used as an idea for a made-up city. This fictional city, called Bon Temps, is in the "Southern Vampire Mysteries" book series by Charlaine Harris.
Minden During the Civil War
During the American Civil War, a large camp for Confederate soldiers was in Minden. About 15,000 soldiers stayed there. The town also helped supply the Confederate Army with food and other items. Nearly thirty Confederate soldiers are buried in the Old Minden Cemetery. They died in the Battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill.
Major Events in Minden's Past
In 1899, Minden experienced the coldest temperature ever recorded in Louisiana. On February 13, 1899, the temperature dropped to -16°F (-26.7°C). This happened during a very cold event called the Great Blizzard of 1899.
During the Great Depression, which was a tough economic time, one of Minden's two banks closed. Also, a big fire destroyed a large part of the downtown area in 1931.
On May 1, 1933, a tornado hit the town. It destroyed about 20% of the homes in Minden.

Minden is located in Louisiana. The city covers a total area of about 39.39 square kilometers (15.21 square miles). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.44 square kilometers (0.17 square miles), is water.
