Mirey Brook is a small river, about 6.5-mile-long (10.5 km). It flows through northern Massachusetts and southwestern New Hampshire in the United States.
This brook is a tributary of the Ashuelot River. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. The Ashuelot River then joins the even bigger Connecticut River. The Connecticut River eventually flows all the way to Long Island Sound, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Where Mirey Brook Starts and Ends
Mirey Brook begins in the town of Warwick, Massachusetts. Its journey starts from a wet area, or wetland, at the bottom of Mount Grace.
The brook then flows north into a place called Sunny Valley. As it continues north, it crosses into New Hampshire. It enters the town of Winchester, New Hampshire. Here, the valley around the brook changes. It goes from being narrow and steep to wide and flat.
The brook's journey ends when it reaches the Ashuelot River. This happens near the village of Winchester.
Following the Brook's Path
A road called State Route 78 follows Mirey Brook for a good part of its path. You can see the brook from the road. The road follows the brook from where Mountain Brook joins it, all the way to where Mirey Brook meets the Ashuelot River.
Other Streams Joining Mirey Brook
As Mirey Brook flows, other smaller streams join it. These are also called tributaries.
- Mountain Brook and Kidder Brook flow into Mirey Brook from the southeast. They join it when Mirey Brook is in Sunny Valley.
- Roaring Brook is another important stream that joins Mirey Brook. It flows in from the east. This happens near a place called Scotland, New Hampshire.
