Misao Tamai was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, on December 16, 1903. He loved playing football and became a skilled forward.
Playing for Clubs
Tamai played for a team called Waseda WMW. This team was special because it was made up of players and graduates from Waseda University. He played alongside many other talented footballers who also represented the Japan national team. Some of his teammates included Shigeyoshi Suzuki, Haruo Arima, and Ko Takamoro.
Representing Japan
In August 1927, when Misao Tamai was still a student at Waseda University, he was chosen to play for the Japan national team. This was a big honor! He traveled to Shanghai to compete in the 1927 Far Eastern Championship Games.
On August 27, he played his first game for Japan against Republic of China. In that exciting match, he even scored a goal! Just two days later, on August 29, he played another game against the Philippines. Japan won this game, which was a very important moment. It was the Japan national team's first-ever victory in an International A Match (a top-level international game). Overall, Tamai played 2 games for Japan in 1927 and scored 1 goal.
Life After Football
After he stopped playing football, Misao Tamai continued to be involved in the sport. From 1957 to 1976, he served as a vice-president of the Japan Football Association. This meant he helped guide and manage football in Japan for many years.
