Early Life and Music Beginnings
Misha Amber Bryan was born on February 10, 1992. She was raised by her aunt Lily from a young age, along with her sister. Misha B has said that she always saw Lily as her mother.
She grew up in the Longsight, Hulme, and Moss Side areas of Manchester. As a teenager, Misha B went to Trinity C.E. High School in Hulme. She even played football for the Manchester United under-16s team. Misha B started by writing poetry, then began rapping, and later started singing. She began taking her singing more seriously at age fourteen. She felt that music was her only way to express herself and helped her understand herself better.
When she was 18, in 2010, she joined a singing course at the Manchester Music Base. This college is in Trafford College in Manchester. There, she was taught by Leanne Brown, who was part of the group Sweet Female Attitude. Misha B started performing at open mic nights in Manchester at eighteen. She also performed as a busker outside Manchester's Arndale Centre to overcome her stage fright.
Music Career
Becoming Famous on The X Factor
Misha B became famous in the music world in 2011. This happened when she appeared on the eighth season of The X Factor. For her first audition, she sang "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. The judges, Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland, and Tulisa, were very impressed. Her performance was described as "confident" and "show-stopping."
She moved forward through the competition, known for her unique rap-singing style, similar to Lauryn Hill. Kelly Rowland chose her for the live shows in the Girls category. Many sources, like The Daily Telegraph and Digital Spy, have called Misha B one of the most talented acts to come from a talent show. BBC 1xtra said her performances were "show-stopping" and that she was a different kind of contestant for The X Factor. Her performance of "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele was a highlight of the season.
Misha B was in the bottom two contestants a few times during the show. However, she was saved by the judges. In the semi-final, she received the fewest votes and was eliminated. She finished in fourth place.
During the show, there was a misunderstanding where some judges made accusations about Misha B. However, no proof was given, and the judges later said sorry. Other judges and contestants defended Misha B. Gary Barlow later said he believed these accusations hurt Misha B's chances of winning. Misha B has said that The X Factor gave her a great start, but it was a tough experience because it's an entertainment show.
