Mishi Donovan (born in 1964, died in 2013) was a talented Chippewa Cree woman from Canada. She was an actress, a musician, and a strong voice for First Nations people. She also taught others about HIV/AIDS.

Mishi Donovan's Early Life and Work

Mishi was Chippewa Cree and came from the Turtle Mountain area. When she was young, she was part of something called the Sixties Scoop. This meant she was taken from her birth family. She grew up with foster families who were not Indigenous.

In the 1980s, Mishi worked in Edmonton, Alberta. She helped Indigenous people in the court system. Later, she became a leader for a group called Feathers of Hope. This group was a charity that helped First Nations people affected by HIV/AIDS. Mishi was very dedicated to helping others.

Mishi Donovan's Music Career

Mishi loved writing and performing music as a hobby. In 1993, she sent some of her songs to Sunshine Records. The record label liked her music and signed her.

Albums and Awards

Mishi released her first album, Spirit in Flight, in 1995. She then released two more albums. These were The Spirit Within in 1997 and Journey Home in 2000.

Her album The Spirit Within won a special award. It won the Aboriginal Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 1998. This is a very important music award in Canada. Her album Journey Home was also nominated for the same award in 2001.

Mishi Donovan's Acting Roles

Besides music, Mishi also acted in television shows. She had roles in the TV series Big Bear and MythQuest.

Later Years

Later in her life, Mishi shared that she had a health condition called dystonia. Mishi Donovan passed away in 2013. She was 48 years old.
