Climbing
First ascent July 21, 1933 by H.S. Kingman, J. Monroe Thorington, C. Kain

Mistaya Mountain is a cool peak found right on the edge of two Canadian provinces: Alberta and British Columbia. It sits on something called the Continental Divide, which is like a giant natural line that separates where water flows. Water on one side goes to the Pacific Ocean, and water on the other side goes to the Atlantic or Arctic oceans!

This mountain got its name in 1918. The word "Mistaya" might come from the Cree people, meaning "grizzly bear." Or, it could be from the Stoney language, meaning "much wind." Either way, it sounds like a powerful name for a mountain!

Exploring Mistaya Mountain

Mistaya Mountain is known for being a fairly easy climb. It's considered "non-technical," which means you don't need special ropes or climbing gear to reach the top. It's more of a hike than a climb.

Amazing Views from the Top

If you make it to the summit of Mistaya Mountain, you'll be treated to some incredible sights. The views are especially great looking north, northwest, and south. You can see other famous mountains like Forbes, Lyell, and Columbia. Imagine standing on top of the world, looking out at all those majestic peaks!

How Tall is Mistaya Mountain?

Mistaya Mountain stands tall at 3,096 meters (about 10,157 feet) above sea level. That's pretty high! Its "prominence" is 366 meters, which means it rises quite a bit from the land around it, making it stand out.

First People to Climb Mistaya

The first recorded climb to the top of Mistaya Mountain happened on July 21, 1933. The brave climbers were H.S. Kingman, J. Monroe Thorington, and C. Kain. They were the first to officially reach its summit.
