Early Life and Culture

Mitch Tambo was born in Sydney, Australia. When he was 18 months old, his family moved to Tamworth. Mitch shares that his mother, Roz Parker, helped him to connect with his Aboriginal Australian heritage. He is from the Gamilaraay people. His Aunty Bernadette Duncan also helped him learn his traditional language again.

Mitch said his mum was his biggest inspiration. She always encouraged him to explore his culture. He felt it brought great strength to his spirit. In 2010, Mitch traveled to Rome. This was for the special event where Mary MacKillop became a saint.

Music Journey

In 2019, Mitch tried out for Australia's Got Talent. He sang his song "Walanbaa" for his audition. Judge Nicole Scherzinger was very impressed. She gave him a "golden buzzer," which sent him straight to the semi-finals. She said he showed the true beauty and talent of Australia.

In the semi-final, he performed a special version of "You're the Voice". He sang it in two languages: Gamilaraay and English. He also wore traditional feathers and a crest. Judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte gave him another golden buzzer. This sent him to the final round.

After Australia's Got Talent, his music became very popular around the world. Many fans hoped he would represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest.

In November 2019, Mitch announced he had signed a deal with Sony Music Australia. He also took part in Eurovision - Australia Decides. This was a competition to choose who would represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. He sang his song "Together." He placed 5th in the competition. During this time, Mitch faced some unkind comments online, which affected how he felt.

This concert was part of the "Yes" campaign for the 2023 Australian Indigenous Voice referendum. This vote was about changing the Australian Constitution to create a "Voice to Parliament" for Indigenous Australians. This "Voice" would give Indigenous Australians a way to advise the government on laws and policies that affect them. Mitch's song was also used in a video ad for the campaign.
