The Mohawk Valley is a long, flat area in the southwestern part of Arizona. It is located in the lower section of the western Gila River Valley, which is part of the Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran Desert is a very hot and dry region.

The Mohawk Valley is a significant geographical feature in Arizona. It is known for its connection to the Gila River and the communities that have grown along its banks. This valley is an important area for farming in the desert.

Where is the Mohawk Valley Located?

The Mohawk Valley follows the Gila River itself. This part of the valley mostly runs from east to west. It stretches northeast, upstream, to an area called the Hyder Valley. To the west, the Gila River turns northwest. It then flows through the Dome Valley. This Dome Valley is found between the Gila Mountains and the Muggins Mountains Wilderness.

Towns in the Valley

Several farming towns are located along the Gila River within the Mohawk Valley. These communities include Wellton, Noah, Roll, Tacna, and Mohawk. These towns rely on the river for their water supply, especially for agriculture.

Southern Plains and Surrounding Mountains

The southern part of the Mohawk Valley is a very large, flat area. This plain stretches south and goes uphill towards Sonora, which is in Mexico. On its eastern side, this southern part of the valley ends at the Tule Desert and the Sierra Pinta mountains to the west. The eastern edge of this southern valley section is bordered by the Mohawk Mountains and the Bryan Mountains.
