Mon is a small village in Switzerland. It used to be its own municipality. A municipality is like a small town or area with its own local government. Mon is located in a beautiful part of Switzerland called Graubünden.
On January 1, 2015, Mon joined with several other villages. These villages were Alvaschein, Stierva, Tiefencastel, Alvaneu, Brienz/Brinzauls, and Surava. Together, they formed a new, bigger municipality called Albula/Alvra.
History of Mon
Mon has a long history. It was first mentioned a very long time ago, between the years 1001 and 1200. Back then, it was called de Maune.
Later, in 1281, its name was written as Mans. Until 1943, the village was known as Mons.
Geography of Mon
Mon is in a lovely area. Before it joined with other villages, its total area was about 8.5 square kilometers (3.3 square miles).
A big part of this land, about 36.7%, was used for farming. Forests covered even more, about 58.8% of the area. Only a small part, 1.9%, had buildings or roads. The rest was natural land like rivers or mountains.
The village is located southwest of Tiefencastel. It sits on the left side of the Oberhalbstein Range valley.
People and Life in Mon
Mon is a small village. As of 2013, about 90 people lived there. Over the past 10 years, the number of people living in Mon has grown by about 7.1%.
Most people in Mon speak Rhaeto-Romance. This is a special language spoken in parts of Switzerland. German is the second most common language, and a few people speak Italian.
In 2000, there were slightly more females (53.3%) than males (46.7%) living in Mon. The village has people of all ages, from young children to older adults.
Many adults in Mon have completed good education. About 79.5% of people aged 25-64 have finished high school or gone on to higher education. This could be a university or a special college.
Mon has a very low unemployment rate, which means most people who want to work have jobs. Many people work in farming. Some work in manufacturing, and others work in service jobs like shops or tourism.

Important Buildings in Mon
The Church of St. Franziskus/S. Francestg in Mon is a very important building. It is listed as a Swiss heritage site. This means it is a special place that is protected because of its history and beauty.
The church was built a long time ago, between 1643 and 1648. It was built by a group of monks called the Capuchins. Inside, the church has beautiful paintings called frescoes. These paintings were made by Johann Rudolf Sturn.
Over time, some of the original paintings were covered up. But after a renovation in 1975, the original frescoes were made visible again.
