Riom-Parsonz was once a municipality in the Sursés area of Switzerland. It was located in the Albula district within the canton of Graubünden. This municipality was formed in 1979 when the two villages of Riom and Parsonz joined together. Later, on January 1, 2016, Riom-Parsonz and several other nearby municipalities merged to create a new, larger municipality called Surses.

Riom-Parsonz was created in 1979 when the villages of Parsonz and Riom became one municipality.
The Village of Riom Through Time
The village of Riom is very old. It was first mentioned in records way back in 841. At that time, it was called villa Riamio. In the German language, it was known as Reams.
Riom was settled during the Roman era, from the 1st to the 4th century. It served as a mansio, which was like a rest stop or way-station along the important Julier Pass road. Even after the Fall of the Western Roman Empire, farmers and herders continued to live there. By 840, the king of Raetia Curiensis owned Riom, and it was an important local center for administration.
The Village of Parsonz Through Time
The other part of the municipality, Parsonz, is also quite old. It was first mentioned in 1156 as Presan. In German, it was called Präsanz.
Exploring the Land: Geography of Riom-Parsonz
Riom-Parsonz covered an area of about 56 square kilometers (21.6 square miles) in 2006. A large part of this land, about 51%, was used for farming. Forests covered another 18% of the area.
Only a small portion, about 1.1%, was built up with buildings or roads. The remaining 30% of the land was non-productive. This means it included natural features like rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
The former municipality was located in the Surses sub-district. It sat along the old road that leads to the Julier pass. It was also found on a western terrace of the Oberhalbstein Range.
