The Montgomery District was an important administrative area in the old Punjab Province of British India. Today, this area is part of Pakistan. The district was named after Sir Robert Montgomery, a British administrator.

This district was located in a special area called a Doab, which means "two rivers." It was mainly between the Sutlej River and the Ravi River. It also included another Doab area between the Ravi River and the Chenab River. The main town and administrative center was called Montgomery. This town is now known as Sahiwal. In 1978, the name of Montgomery District was officially changed to Sahiwal District.

The Montgomery District was divided into smaller administrative areas called tehsils. Think of a tehsil like a county or a smaller region within a larger district.
