Geography of Monticello
Monticello is located in the southern part of Lafayette County. It shares a border with Jo Daviess County, Illinois to the south. The town covers an area of about 50.9 square kilometers (around 19.6 square miles), all of which is land.
The Apple River flows through the middle of the county. This river travels south into Illinois and eventually joins the large Mississippi River at a place called Blackhawk.
