Moogerah Peaks is a special National Park in South East Queensland, Australia. It's about 70 kilometers (43 miles) southwest of Brisbane, the state capital. This park is 676 hectares big, which is like 1,670 acres! It's made up of four different areas that protect cool volcanic mountains and rocky cliffs near Moogerah Dam.

About Moogerah Peaks National Park

The Moogerah Peaks are a group of small mountains that were formed by volcanoes long ago. The park protects the tops of four main mountains: Mount French, Mount Edwards, Mount Moon, and Mount Greville. Each of these mountains is in its own separate part of the park.

Exploring Mount French

On Mount French, you'll find amazing cliffs called Frog Buttress. This area is super popular for rock climbers from all over. It's one of the best places in Queensland to go climbing!

Visiting Mount Edwards

To get to the Mount Edwards part of the park, you can cross the wall and spillway of Lake Moogerah. It's a unique way to enter a national park!

Discovering Mount Greville

Mount Greville is home to a narrow place called Palm Gorge. This gorge is filled with lots of Piccabeen Palms. It's a beautiful and peaceful spot. Just west and south of Moogerah Peaks National Park is the Main Range National Park, which also protects part of the beautiful Scenic Rim area.

Nature and Plants

Because the mountains in Moogerah Peaks are a bit hard to reach, the natural plants and trees have stayed safe and untouched. Most of the park is covered in open eucalypt forests. You'll also see tough heath plants growing on the rocky parts of the mountains. In places that are more sheltered, there are even small patches of rainforest.

The park has many different kinds of plants. Besides rainforests and eucalypt woodlands, there are special montane heath plants in the rocky areas. Some plants here are so unique, they can't be found anywhere else on Earth! These include the Moogerah Peaks Leionema and the Mount Greville Reed Grass.

Amazing Birds

Moogerah Peaks National Park is part of the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area. This means it's a very important place for birds, especially some threatened species. BirdLife International has identified this area because it helps protect several kinds of birds that need our help to survive.
