Moonbeam Lake is found in a geographic area called Alexandra Township. This area is part of the Unorganized North Cochrane District. The lake is about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) long and 1.0 kilometer (0.6 miles) wide. It sits at an elevation of 225 meters (738 feet) above sea level.

Where Does the Water Go?

All lakes are part of a larger water system called a drainage basin. Moonbeam Lake is part of the James Bay drainage basin. This means all the water flowing into and out of Moonbeam Lake eventually makes its way to James Bay.

Inflows: Water Coming In

Water flows into Moonbeam Lake from two main sources. These are called inflows.

  • One inflow is Moonbeam Creek, which enters the lake from the southwest.
  • The other main inflow is Strickland Creek, which joins the lake from the south.

Outflows: Water Flowing Out

The main outflow from Moonbeam Lake is also Moonbeam Creek. This creek leaves the lake from the north. From there, the water continues its journey through several other rivers:

This journey shows how Moonbeam Lake is connected to a much larger network of water, playing a small but important role in the environment of Northern Ontario.
