Exploring Morfa Bychan Village
Morfa Bychan is found on the Llŷn Peninsula, a piece of land that sticks out into the sea. It's just west of Porthmadog, a larger town. You can get to Morfa Bychan from Porthmadog by car.
The village has a few useful places for visitors and locals. There's a small supermarket where you can buy food and supplies. If you're looking for a tasty treat, there's a fish-and-chips shop. You can also find a gift shop to buy souvenirs. For younger kids, there's a children's playground.
Morfa Bychan is also home to the Porthmadog Golf Club. If you enjoy fishing, the Glan Morfa Trout fishery is nearby.
Discovering Traeth Morfa Bychan Beach
One of the most famous parts of Morfa Bychan is its beach, known as Traeth Morfa Bychan. This beach is about two miles long. It stretches from the Afon Glaslyn (River Glaslyn) estuary, near a place called Ynys Cyngar, all the way along Tremadog Bay towards Criccieth beach. You can even walk to Criccieth beach when the tide is low.
What makes this beach unusual is that cars are allowed to drive onto it. This can be handy for carrying your beach gear, but it also means drivers need to be careful. The sea at Traeth Morfa Bychan is shallow and slopes gently, which makes it a great place for swimming and paddling, especially for families.
If you bring a dog, they are allowed on the eastern and western parts of the beach. However, dogs are not allowed in the central section. The beach also has special areas set aside for swimming and for launching boats.
The sandy areas behind the beach are called sand dunes. These dunes at Traeth Morfa Bychan are very important for nature. They are protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which means they are special because of their plants, animals, or geology.
Traeth Morfa Bychan has even been featured in movies and music! Part of the 1971 film Macbeth was filmed here. Also, the picture on the cover of the This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours album by the band Manic Street Preachers was taken at this beach.
Ynys Cyngar and Its History
Just below a place called Ynys Cyngar, there's another small beach. Ynys Cyngar was originally where a man named Madocks planned to build a port. However, he later decided to move the port to Porthmadog instead.

Morfa Bychan is a popular holiday destination, and because of this, it has several caravan parks. Some of these include Greenacres, Garreg Goch, Cardigan View, and Glan Morfa Mawr. Greenacres is the largest of these parks. There is also a touring and camping site located just outside the village, near Black Rock Sands.
