Moses Ayers McCoid (born November 5, 1840 – died May 19, 1904) was an important person in American history. He was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He also served as a U.S. Representative for Iowa. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Early Life and Education
Moses McCoid was born on November 5, 1840, near Bellefontaine, Ohio. He went to public schools when he was young. Later, he attended Fairfield University and Washington & Jefferson College.
He decided to study law in Fairfield, Iowa. He learned from James F. Wilson, who later became a Congressman and U.S. Senator. In 1861, Moses McCoid became a lawyer. He started his law practice in Fairfield.
Serving in the Civil War
When the American Civil War began, Moses McCoid joined the army. On May 6, 1861, he became a private in the 2nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He fought in many important battles.
Some of these battles included Fort Donelson and Shiloh. He also fought in the Siege of Corinth and at Resaca. He was promoted to second lieutenant. Later, he became an adjutant, which is an officer who helps a commander.
A Career in Politics
After the Civil War ended, Moses McCoid went back to being a lawyer in Fairfield. He also started working in government. From 1867 to 1871, he was the district attorney for Iowa's sixth judicial district.
From 1872 to 1879, he served as a member of the Iowa Senate. This is a part of the state's government that makes laws.
In 1878, McCoid was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He represented Iowa's 1st congressional district. He was re-elected two more times. He served in Congress from March 4, 1879, to March 3, 1885.
After leaving Congress, he continued his work as a lawyer.
Later Life and Legacy
Moses McCoid passed away in Fairfield, Iowa, on May 19, 1904. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
