Mouna Traoré started acting when she was very young. She took classes at the Young People's Theatre. Later, she went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. She also earned a degree from the University of Toronto.

In 2017, Mouna starred in a short film called The Drop In. This film was first shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. In the movie, Mouna plays Joelle, a hairdresser. Joelle faces a surprise when a woman from her past, Grace, visits her salon. Grace's visit is not just for a haircut; she has other plans about Joelle's immigration status. The Drop In was chosen as one of Canada's top short films in 2017.
That same year, Mouna also starred in Brown Girl Begins. This movie is an Afro-futurist film. It was shown in theaters in 2018 and at many film festivals.
