Mount Armstrong is a tall mountain found in Canada. It stands right on the border between two Canadian provinces: Alberta and British Columbia. This mountain is also part of a very important natural feature called the Continental Divide.

About Mount Armstrong

Mount Armstrong reaches a height of 2,823 meters (about 9,262 feet) above sea level. It is part of the High Rock Range in the Canadian Rockies. The Canadian Rockies are a huge mountain range known for their beautiful scenery.

Where is Mount Armstrong Located?

This mountain is unique because it sits exactly on the provincial boundary. This means one side of the mountain is in Alberta, and the other side is in British Columbia. It is also located on the Continental Divide. The Continental Divide is like a giant natural line across North America. On one side, rivers flow towards the Pacific Ocean. On the other side, rivers flow towards the Atlantic Ocean or the Arctic Ocean.

Why is it Called Mount Armstrong?

Mount Armstrong was given its name in 1918. It was named to honor a brave soldier named John Douglas Armstrong. He was a lieutenant, which is an officer, in the Canadian Engineers. This group was part of the Canadian military.

John Douglas Armstrong was killed during World War I. He died in action on April 9, 1917. This happened during a very important battle called the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Naming the mountain after him was a way to remember his sacrifice.
