Mount Mather is a tall mountain in the Alaska Range. It stands about 12,096-foot (3,687 m) high. This impressive peak is located inside Denali National Park and Preserve.
Mount Mather is found northeast of Denali, which is North America's highest mountain. It looks over the Brooks Glacier. The mountain itself is mostly covered by thick glaciers. Mount Mather was given its name in 1947. It honors Stephen Mather, who was an important director of the National Park Service.
Mountain Climate
Mount Mather is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has very long, cold, and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild. Temperatures can drop below −20 °C (that's −4 °F). With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 °C (−22 °F).
Rain and melting snow from the mountain flow into the Tanana River area. The best time to visit or climb Mount Mather is usually from May through June. The weather during these months is often the most pleasant.
