Mount Mestas is a mountain peak located in the southeastern Sangre de Cristo Range. This mountain range is part of the larger Rocky Mountains in North America.
The top of Mount Mestas is about 11,573 feet (3,527 meters) high. It is located in Huerfano County, Colorado, in the United States. The peak is about 5.1 kilometers (3.2 miles) southeast of North La Veta Pass.

The Mountain's Name
Mount Mestas has had several names throughout history. It was originally known as La Veta Peak. In 1949, its name was officially changed to Mount Mestas. This change was made to honor PFC Felix B. Mestas Jr. He was a soldier who bravely served and was killed during World War II.
