About Mount Richardson
The Lake Louise Mountain Resort is built on the southern side of the Merlin Ridge. This ridge includes Mount Richardson, Ptarmigan Peak, and Pika Peak. There is also a campground at the base of Mount Richardson. It is located close to Hidden Lake.
First Climb to the Top
The first time someone successfully climbed Mount Richardson was in 1911. A person named L.L. Delafield made this climb. He was guided by Edward Feuz Jr., who helped him find the way.
How to Explore Mount Richardson
You can climb Mount Richardson using a route called a scrambling route. This route is rated as easy to moderate. It starts from Hidden Lake and goes up the southern slopes to the very top.
The main challenge on this climb is going through a few rocky, loose areas. These are just above Hidden Lake. You can also try to cross over to Pika Peak. This involves going through a low point between the two mountains, called the Richardson-Pika col, and then along Pika Peak's west ridge. However, this trip is much harder and more challenging.
