Mount Rose Ski Tahoe is a popular ski resort in the Western United States. It is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, close to Reno, Nevada. This makes it the closest ski resort to the city of Reno.

The resort is about 30 miles (48 km) south of Reno. It sits in the Carson Range of the Sierra Nevada. Mount Rose Ski Tahoe has the highest base elevation of any ski area in the Tahoe region. Its base is about 8,260 feet (2,518 meters) high. The very top of the resort reaches about 9,700 feet (2,957 meters).

The total area where you can ski is about 1,200 acres (4.9 km²). This large area is part of the Toiyabe National Forest. Even though it's called Mount Rose, the resort is actually on the slopes of Slide Mountain. Mount Rose is on the other side of the highway.

History of Mount Rose Ski Tahoe

The ski resort first opened in 1953. Back then, it was known as the "Reno Ski Bowl." It was located on the eastern side of Slide Mountain.

In March 1954, the first ever NCAA Skiing Championships were held here. The University of Nevada hosted the event. A skier from the University of Nevada, Pat Meyers, won the downhill race.

Later, the resort changed its name to the "Slide Mountain Ski Area." In 1964, another ski area called "Mount Rose Ski Area" opened nearby. This new area was on the north side of the mountain. In 1987, the two ski areas joined together. This created the single resort we know today as Mount Rose Ski Tahoe.

In December 2004, a new section called "The Chutes" opened. This area has some of the steepest and most challenging ski runs in the entire Tahoe region. It is perfect for advanced skiers and snowboarders.

The Buser family has owned most of the resort since 1972. In 2018, they decided to keep the resort in their family.

Winters Creek Lodge Facility

Winters Creek Lodge is a newer building at Mount Rose. It is located on the "Slide" side of the resort. This lodge is a great place for events and gatherings.

Inside, the lodge can hold up to 200 guests. There is seating for 115 people and a bar area for 58. Outside, there is a large deck that is about 7,623 square feet (708 m²) in size. This deck can seat up to 400 people for outdoor events.

The lodge is named after Winters Creek. This creek flows from Slide Mountain towards Washoe Lake.
