Understanding Mount Rumble's Climate
Mount Rumble is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has very long, cold, and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild, not too hot or too cold.
Weather systems from the Gulf of Alaska bring a lot of moisture. When these systems hit the Chugach Mountains, the air is forced upwards. This process, called orographic lift, causes heavy rain and snow to fall on the mountain.
Temperatures on Mount Rumble can drop very low. They might go below −20 °C (which is −4 °F). With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 °C (−22 °F). The water from melting snow and rain flows down the peak into Peters Creek.
