The Haverhill part of Mountain Lakes is built around two lakes. These lakes were created on Waterman Brook, a stream that flows north into the Wild Ammonoosuc River.

The community stretches north into the nearby town of Bath. It reaches as far as the Wild Ammonoosuc River and the Swiftwater Covered Bridge. New Hampshire Route 112 goes through the Bath section of Mountain Lakes. This road connects Woodsville to the west with Kinsman Notch and North Woodstock to the east.
