Moyock is located in the northeastern part of North Carolina. It sits right on North Carolina Highway 168. This highway is just south of the state line with Virginia.
The community is at the end of the Chesapeake Expressway. This is a toll road. Moyock is only about 25 miles south of downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Because it's so close to Virginia, Moyock has become a "commuter town." This means many people live in Moyock but travel to work in the larger Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Greyhound Racing History
Moyock has a history with greyhound racing. This is a sport where dogs race around a track.
Originally, dog racing happened in Norfolk County, Virginia, in the 1930s. But officials in Virginia stopped it. So, the Cavalier Kennel Club (CKC) moved their races. They set up a new track in Moyock, just half a mile south of the state line.
The CKC track in Moyock was a quarter-mile oval. It attracted many people from the Hampton Roads area. This included thousands of U.S. Navy members stationed in Norfolk. The races were popular from the late 1940s to the early 1950s.
However, in 1954, North Carolina passed a law against dog racing. The North Carolina Supreme Court supported this law. So, dog racing at the CKC track in Moyock stopped.
NASCAR Racing History
After dog racing ended, Moyock became a place for auto racing. The old dog track was renamed Dog Track Speedway (DTS).
The track was first a dirt oval. In 1964, it was paved and made longer. It became one-third of a mile long. The DTS hosted seven NASCAR races between 1962 and 1966. Some of these races included the Moyock 300 and the Tidewater 300.
Famous Drivers at DTS
- Ned Jarrett won the most races at the track. He won twice, in 1962 and 1964. His Ford car won all six times he raced there. He earned $4,631 in winnings.
- Richard Petty, a famous North Carolina driver, also raced at DTS six times. He drove a Plymouth in every race. Even though he started in the lead position twice, he never finished higher than 3rd place. He won $1,700 at the track.
The last NASCAR race at DTS was on Sunday, May 29, 1966. It was 301 laps long. David Pearson won the race in a 1964 Dodge. He drove at an average speed of 61.913 miles per hour and won $1,000.
The track closed later in 1966. This was because fewer people were coming to the races. Also, bigger race tracks were being built nearby.
International Business Connection
Moyock was once the main office, or "corporate headquarters," for a company called Blackwater Worldwide. This company later changed its name to Xe Services LLC. It then moved its main office to Arlington County, Virginia, and became known as Academi.
