Mull Little Theatre was a special theatre located on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Scottish Hebrides. It was once known as the "Smallest Professional Theatre in the World" by the Guinness World Records!

The Start of a Tiny Theatre

The Mull Little Theatre began in 1963. It was created by Barrie and Marianne Hesketh. They built it from an old cowshed, called a byre. At first, it was called the Thursday Theatre. It offered fun shows for guests staying at the Druimard Guest House. People loved it, and its fame grew. Soon, it became officially recognized as the world's smallest professional theatre.

A New Chapter for Mull Theatre

The very last show at the original Little Theatre was in 2006. But the story didn't end there! A brand new building opened in July 2008. This new place, called the Production Centre, is at Druimfin. It's just outside Tobermory, which is the main village on Mull. This new centre is big enough for performances, rehearsals, and workshops.

In 2013, the Mull Theatre group joined with An Tobar. An Tobar is an arts centre in Tobermory. Now, they work together as An Tobar and Mull Theatre. They get funding from Creative Scotland to keep bringing amazing arts to the island.

What Plays Were Performed?

Over the years, Mull Little Theatre showed many different plays. They performed works by famous writers and new ones too. Some of the well-known playwrights included William Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde. They also showed plays by J M Barrie, who wrote Peter Pan.

The theatre was a place where many different stories came to life. It was a small theatre with a big heart for the arts!
