Munford is a small town located in Talladega County, Alabama, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,351 people lived there. Munford is famous for being the site of the last battle of the Civil War fought east of the Mississippi River. This battle, called the Battle of Munford, happened on April 23, 1865.

Munford's History
Munford first became an official town in 1873. Later, in the 1880s, it stopped being an official town. In 2000, it was listed as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it was a community recognized for census purposes but not officially a town. Then, in 2002, Munford officially became an incorporated town again.
The Last Civil War Battle
During the American Civil War, a very important event happened in Munford. On April 23, 1865, the Battle of Munford took place. This battle was the last major fight of the war east of the Mississippi River. A soldier named Andrew Jackson Buttram was one of the last Confederate soldiers to die in the war during this battle.
