Habib Munzir bin Fuad Al-Musawa (Arabic: منذر المساوى Munḏir Al-Musāwā; February 23, 1973 – September 15, 2013) was an important Islamic cleric and teacher from Indonesia. He was also the founder of a well-known religious group called Majelis Rasulullah.

Early Life and Family

Munzir Al-Musawa was born on February 23, 1973, in Cipanas, Indonesia. He was the fourth of five children in his family. His father, Fuad Bin Abdurrahman Al-Musawa, was a journalist. His mother was Rahmah Binti Hashim Al-Musawa.

Munzir spent most of his childhood in Cipanas with his siblings: Nabiel, Ramzy, Lulu, and Aliyah. He is considered a sayyid, which means he was a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. His family line goes back through Muhammad's grandson, Hussein ibn Ali.

His Education

After finishing high school, Munzir began studying Islamic law, known as sharia. He studied Arabic and other religious subjects in Jakarta. He then continued his studies at Al Khairat Ma'had in Bekasi.

While at Al-Khayrat, he met Habib Umar bin Hafiz. Habib Umar was the leader of a famous Islamic boarding school called Dar al-Mustafa in Tarim, Yemen. In 1994, Munzir received a scholarship to study at Dar al-Mustafa for four years. There, he learned about many Islamic topics. These included fiqh (Islamic law), Qur'anic tafsir (explanation of the Qur'an), hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad), and tasawwuf (Islamic spirituality).

His Career and Teachings

After four years of study, Munzir returned to Indonesia in 1998. He started teaching and preaching in Jakarta. At first, his meetings were small. He met with his followers in their homes.

As more and more people wanted to learn from him, the group grew. They moved their meetings to mosques. Eventually, they found a permanent mosque called Al-Munawwar.
