Murton is a small, friendly village located just outside the historic city of York in North Yorkshire, England. It's a civil parish, which means it has its own local council.
The village is surrounded by other small communities. To the west, you'll find the A64 and the village of Osbaldwick. To the south is the A166 road which leads to Bridlington. North of Murton is Stockton-on-the-Forest, and to the east are the villages of Holtby and Warthill.
In 2011, a count of the population showed that 668 people lived in Murton. This was an increase from 423 people counted in 2001.

Murton's History and Location
Murton has been part of different local government areas over time. Before 1974, it was part of the North Riding of Yorkshire. From 1974 to 1996, it belonged to the Ryedale district within North Yorkshire. Since 1996, Murton has been part of the City of York's local authority.
The village has about 100 homes. These range from older, larger country houses to more modern buildings.

At Murton Park, you can also find a small railway track. This track is what remains of the old Derwent Valley Light Railway. If you visit on Sundays or bank holidays, you might even get to see trains running on this historic line!
